IWS - I was a Sari

Collection: IWS - I was a Sari

I Was a Sari is a Mumbai-based social enterprise that transforms discarded saris into contemporary fashion and accessories. Founded in 2013, the brand works with marginalised women artisans in the city, providing training, fair wages and a pathway out of poverty through craft. Each piece is handmade in small batches, giving new life to pre-loved textiles that would otherwise go to waste.

The brand takes its name from its core material: the sari, one of India's most iconic garments. Rather than treating end-of-life fabric as waste, I Was a Sari sees it as a starting point — a source of colour, texture and story. The result is a collection of bags, accessories and clothing that carry the history of the original textile while taking on a completely new identity.
